Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is centered on student focused learning. Teaching provides me the opportunity to contribute to students’ intellectual growth and provide new perspectives on the course material and related subjects. My objective for teaching is to equip students with the information and skill sets to comprehend and apply new knowledge to solve technical, business, and educational problems. Well prepared professionals in the STEM fields and in business are needed because of the changing economic, social, and demographic climate of our country. It is important that students have the knowledge to become competent decision makers. The skills that students develop should be transferrable to the work environment to become catalysts of change. I assist students by concentrating my instruction and facilitation in a three-pronged approach:
1. Knowledge based learning – teach important concepts and theories,
2. Skills based learning – teach competencies and provide models for management and
leadership
3. Development of critical thinking skills– facilitate experiential learning via for problem solving activities or addressing specific challenges
